How long has the school been running?
Since 1980, when ATF formed a partnership with the International Association of Arson Investigators to create and run this program. The partnership extends to utilizing teaching facilities at the ATF National Academy located on the grounds of the ‘Federal Law Enforcement Training Center’ (FLETC) in Brunswick, Georgia.

What are the eligibility requirements for the program?

Where do we recommend you stay when attending this program?
The prime classroom for our program is in the Embassy Suites hotel in Brunswick, Georgia. We have negotiated special room rates. You should book at an early date by calling 1-912-264-6100. Please make sure you clearly identify yourself as one of our class members.

All of the rooms at Embassy Suites include a sitting area / bathroom and usually two beds. Special requests for accommodation can be made through the hotel. Additionally, the hotel does have a small pool and a workout room.

What’s the best way to get to Brunswick, Georgia?
Due to flight limitations, most students fly into Jacksonville, Florida. This is a large airport with access to car rental agencies. It is approximately a 1-hour drive northbound to arrive in Brunswick.

What is the dress code for the week?
For the majority of the week the dress code is business casual. You should, however, bring dress-down clothing for the exercises we do at FLETC. You do not require full fire scene equipment for these exercises. Please do your own research on the weather conditions anticipated for the week of the program (www.weather.com). If rain is anticipated, bring appropriate clothing.

Can I take photographs at FLETC?
You cannot take photographs outside the main entrance gate to the Academy. You can, however, take photographs relating to our teaching programs. Your instructors will provide you guidance on this but bring your cameras and video-recorders.

Will there be opportunities to buy souvenirs while at FLETC?
Yes. You will have some free time while on base to attend the base store.

Are meals provided as part of the course?
No. You are on your own for meals. As part of our package deal with Embassy Suites they will provide a continental breakfast as part of the room rate. They also host a social hour beginning at 5:30 p.m. which is not part of our program but an initiative hosted by the hotel.

Where do we eat in the area?

What free time might I have?
The course begins on Sunday evening. This is a mandatory start to our class beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the room posted by the hotel. A pizza meal and beverages will be provided at this function where we will review the course curriculum and agree upon our teaching objectives for the week.

Your classes will start at 8 a.m. on Monday morning in the hotel. On Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday your classes will end at 5 p.m. On Wednesday evening you can expect to be in class until 10 p.m. The class will end at 1 p.m. on Friday.

Do I need to bring a laptop?
For most classroom sessions—“No”. Students, however, have found good usage of laptop computers as we move into the practical exercise. If you wish to bring your laptop for that part of the program you are free to do so.

What educational credits do I get for attending this program?
We consider this to be a ‘tested’ program as a result of the manner in which we supervise, observe and instruct our classes. There are group presentations that form part of our instructor evaluation. Subject to the grading of the instructors, certificates representing 41 tested hours will be granted upon successful completion of the program.
